There's a Split Second for sale locally hes got his eyes on, but money is a bit of an issue and we have concerns about parts availability. I came across this Harbor Freight unit that seems like it would work nicely.

WEBOct 31, 2017 · This is the "5 ton" model from Harbor Freight. This is my 3rd year using it. For big jobs I tend to use my neighbours gas splitter. I've split what I estimate to be around 5 bush cords with this electric splitter. Anyways, it always worked fine until 3 weeks ago when it tripped the breaker on my GFI outlet in the middle of splitting.

So, whether you get an Earthquake or Yardmax splitter, consider what kind of extended service plan you can get. I would consider it especially important for a Harbor Freight splitter.

WEBDec 31, 2013 · As far as getting parts is concerned. I'm not sure what is not standard in any log splitter that would be hard to come by.... Good to know, but still would not spend that kind of coin on a splitter from HF. As far as parts, my concern is the quality of the original part. Might be a fine splitter that will give you years of service-might not. JMO.

WEBApr 16, 2008 · Anyway, I've got a Harbor Freight retail store in town, and have been looking at their 6 HP 22-Ton splitter with the Subaru engine. Can get it shipped to the store at no charge. I've read and re-read the downloadable manual, and I can't find anywhere that specifically says whether or not this unit has an auto-return feature.
