Best Way to Remove Minwax Water-Based Polycrylic

The best retail remover I've used is Klean Strip Premium Stripper. I think it's available at even walmart. Sadsam, you can use lacquer thinner to clean most anything off Formica.

WEBJul 11, 2024 · Is it perfectly safe to apply the final coats of Varathane water based polyurethane over the previous build-up coats of Minwax Polycrylic? If it matters, I am using a Satin finish. Additional note I am forced to use an aerosol rattle can application method. The project is three-dimensional with very small engraved details.

I like to go from 400 to 800, 1000, 1500, then use automotive rubbing compound and either a buffer or a soft cotton cloth and a LOT of elbow grease. Reply Like.

WEBNov 25, 2012 · Since you already have the polycrylic I would lay down some dropcloth and finish it in the condo. You can apply in temps below 55 degrees, but apply thin. Make sure the contents are stirred well...don't shake. It will take longer to dry, could be several hours. Try to arrange for ventilation.

WEBApr 30, 2016 · It has strong solvents in it which would ruin the polyshades. The finish would wrinkle up like you put paint and varnish remover on it. There wouldn't be cloudiness with polycrylic, what would happen is it wouldn't properly adhere. You shouldn't ever put a waterborne finish over an oil based finish or vice versa.

WEBJun 23, 2012 · At this point your best bet is to sand it out smooth and apply two fresh, light coats. Flattening agents are particles in the finish designed to make the finish less glossy. In your case, you said it was a satin finish, so it has those particles and needs to be stirred fairly often during the application process.
Oil modified water based polyurethane vs oil based...

It would be a mid-range between polycrylic and oil based. They have taken a water based poly and added oils to the formula to make it a little more durable and improve adhesion. It should spray alright.

WEBAug 29, 2022 · I think it was 3-4 coats. Then after it was completely dry I applied 3 layers of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. At this point, I wish I would have used the wipe-on poly instead. I googled if it was possible to apply an oil based wipe on poly over a water based polycrylic protective finish and most places said “yes”.

WEBJul 19, 2009 · I have thinned MW Polycrylic. HOWEVER I only thinned it 3 parts Polycrylic to one part DISTILLED WATER. BTW - You need to wait about a month to 6 weeks to allow the latex to fully cure before applying the Polycrylic. You may have better luck with the newer MW Water Based Polyurethane.
