The Israeli military says its campaign will soon become less intense, but Palestinians were once again racing to escape the fighting in southern Gaza, including Khan Younis.

The United Nations said on Tuesday that an order by Israel for Palestinians to evacuate areas of Khan Younis and Rafah was the largest such edict in the Gaza Strip since 1.1 million people were told to leave the north of the enclave in October.

The evacuation orders will affect 250,000 people, many of whom have nowhere to go amid difficult conditions, warned the United Nations.
