WASHINGTON - A growing number of major Democratic donors and activists are uneasy at the prospect of President Biden seeking reelection after his disastrous debate performance, especially as new post-debate poll numbers begin trickling in indicating voter displeasure with his candidacy.

A Democratic donor says he and others are seeking presidential debates among potential nominees if President Biden decides to step aside.

Biden performed better than he did on the debate stage. There were also flashes of strength as the President talked up his record, vowed not to leave the race and took shots at Donald Trump, whom he repeatedly described as a “pathological liar.” Biden also referred to Trump at one point as a “congenital liar.”

For years, it’s been a Republican scare tactic. A vote to reelect President Joe Biden, they charged, is really a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris — an attack line sometimes tinged with racist and misogynist undertones and often macabre imagery.

President Joe Biden called out fellow Democrats pushing for him to exit the 2024 election. "Some folks don't seem to care who you vote for," he said.
