Tropical Storm Francine was brewing in the Gulf of Mexico as of Tuesday morning, and the National Weather Service expects that it will become a hurricane with a “life-threatening” storm surge by the end of the day.

Tropical Storm Francine officially formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday morning. The low-pressure system first identified as Potential Tropical Cyclone Six is swirling north through the western Gulf.

Tropical Storm Francine started strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico ahead of an expected hurricane strike on Louisiana and parts of the western Gulf Coast by midweek.

Tropical Storm Gordon has weakened to a depression as it swirls through open waters in the Atlantic. The storm was located about 985 miles (1,580 kilometers) east of the northeast Caribbean on Monday.
