In the midst of the devastating destruction left by the deadliest hurricane to hit the mainland U.S. since Katrina, human connections are giving the survivors hope in western North Carolina

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina (Reuters) -Tens of thousands of North Carolina residents remained without running water on Wednesday, six days after Hurricane Helene slammed into Florida and carved a destructive path through much of the U.

The desperation for drinking water and other necessities in western North Carolina is becoming clear. The question now is when they’ll have reliable taps again.
