The stage is set for the first-ever edition of the UEFA Champions League’s knockout phase playoffs. The playoffs begin this week when several European heavyweights will compete for a spot in the Champions League Round of 16.

Manchester City and Real Madrid meeting in the Champions League has become synonymous with the competition. While both always have ambitions of winning the entire thing, these two teams have already met 12 times in Champions League play with five of those meetings coming in the knockout stage.

Title holder Real Madrid learned who it will face in the Champions League playoffs, and could meet in the last 16, after the draw was made early on Friday.
