North Dakota voters defeated a measure Tuesday night that would have overhauled the state’s tax system by banning property taxes based on assessed value. Roughly 64% of ballots were cast against the proposal in early results.

The legislature estimates that eliminating property taxes would cost the state $3.15 billion dollars for the 2025-2027 biennium.
