Tiger Woods admitted that it was "very difficult" to relocate The Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego in the wake of the wildfires in California.

Tiger Woods said the goal was to keep the Genesis Invitational on or near the West Coast. It was moved to Torrey Pines outside of San Diego.

Torrey Pines is the replacement site for the Genesis Invitational. The Tiger Woods-hosted signature event typically is held at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

Torrey Pines Golf Course will host the Genesis Invitational next month after the PGA Tour moved the tournament from Riviera Country Club due to the deadly Palisades fire.

Keeping the tourney in California and the proximity to Riviera Country Club were primary factors for selecting Torrey Pines for the Feb. 13-16 to the event.

The PGA Tour’s decision to move the fire-displaced Genesis Invitational from Los Angeles’ Riviera Country Club to Torrey Pines Golf Course came down to a dizzying list of moving parts. And one big hotel question.

There are at least 60 people from the City of San Diego’s staff who work on staging the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open at the municipal Torrey Pines golf courses. They toil long hours for months in advance and then all but collapse onto their couches when the final putt drops.

The tournament, annually hosted by Tiger Woods, will be played on its regularly scheduled dates of Feb. 10-16.
