Thirty-eight states have reported cases of West Nile virus this year, and public health officials are warning that threat is not over as cases mount.

New Jersey health officials report that three residents have died from West Nile virus, with the total of human cases reported this season in the state rising to 16. The three people who died were from Cumberland, Mercer, and Middlesex counties, according to the New Jersey Department of Health’s latest update on mosquito-borne illnesses.
