The latest closure means that nearly three-quarters of Louisiana’s portion of the coast-to-coast highway is shut. A rare winter storm brought record snowfall to the state on Tuesday.

Louisiana DOTD officials have closed a large part of interstate 10 due to the icy conditions on the road. DOTD says that I-10 is closed in both directions from the Louisiana-Texas state line to Baton Rouge.

Local interstates and elevated bridges will close early Tuesday morning as freezing temperatures and snow impact the New Orleans area. Interstate 10 will be closed at 4 a.m. in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Charles parishes, according to DOTD.

It happened around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, in St. John the Baptist Parish and the girl’s mother pulled to the side of the road before passing out, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The parish is about a 30-mile drive northwest from New Orleans.
