Martin Lewis has urged British Gas, EDF, EON, Octopus Energy and all other major suppliers' gas and electricity customers to take a photo of their energy meter as the Ofgem price cap changes. That's because the Ofgem energy cap has been increased, adding £149 to the average energy bill, from £1,568 a year to £1,717 from Tuesday, October 1.

British Gas, EON or EDF can act quickly and capitalise on fixed rate tariffs at a lower price, Mr Lewis, the BBC and ITV star, has said.

Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has urged households to take a meter reading “within a few days” of October 1 to ensure energy bills are “totally fair”. From October 1, energy bills increased by 10 percent in line with Ofgem’s new price cap. The move will see the average household’s annual bills rise by around £149 a year.

Now Money Saving Expert, the site founded by Martin Lewis, has revealed a way you can get £1,700 from British Gas to help with energy bills in the months to come. The Individuals and Families Fund is offered to anyone in or facing fuel poverty.

You don't have to be a customer of British Gas to claim the cash to help pay for your energy bills, either, the BBC Sounds star's team says.
