(CBS DETROIT) - Starting this fall, the National Weather Service is changing the naming conventions for cold weather alerts. Notice the following changes:

(KNSI) — The National Weather Service says the language for cold weather alerts will be changing starting this winter.

CHANHASSEN (WJON News) -- The National Weather Service will no longer be issuing "wind chill" watches, warnings or advisories. Meteorologist Joe Calderone in Chanhassen says this winter those messages are being renamed an “extreme cold” watch, an extreme cold warning and a cold weather advisory.

"Project 2025 wants to get rid of NOAA, wants to get rid of the National Weather Service — the people that tell you the weather and help you prepare for hurricanes," said Moskowitz, a former Florida emergency management director under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The National Weather Service is changing its cold weather alerts and messaging this week, doing away with familiar terms like “wind chill watch” and “wind chill warning.” The changes, which come just as cooler temps begin to roll in,

You won't hear about Wind Chill Watches or Warnings anymore. Instead, you'll hear of Extreme Cold Watches or Warnings.
