Nearly a week after the destructive Mountain Fire destroyed more than a hundred buildings and torched tens of thousands of acres of brush in Ventura County, firefighters are defending their response to the blaze as some residents return to their burnt homes.

Multiple homes in Camarillo and Moorpark have been destroyed and more than 14,000 acres burned as Ventura County's Mountain Fire remains at 0% containment. Over 10,000 people have been forced to flee as they face evacuations.

Firefighters threw multiple resources on the northeast portion of the fire as the damage assessment got underway Thursday.

As the Mountain Fire tore through Ventura County neighborhoods, several people were injured by the quickly spreading blaze as it burned multiple homes to the ground. Residents have described a quickly moving situation as they scrambled to get out.

Mountain Fire initially started 8:51 a.m. Nov. 6 in Ventura County. It has burned 20,630 acres after being active for a week. By Wednesday morning, a crew of 2,399 firefighters effectively contained 60% of the fire.
