Wei Yi is probably not as good as blitz. But he's only played two rated blitz games in the past five years. He also missed playing OTB blitz when the K factor was higher so he's probably quite a bit underrated.

Jun 11, 2023 · Wei Yi started college in 2018 and graduated last year. Don’t count him out just cuz he had to start school my guy lol. Ding Liren also attended school during 2011-2015. Yet after graduation 2016-2019 he was insanely dominant. Pandemic hits 2020-2022. And right out of the gate he wins world championship.

Gukesh actually finished 5th with 19.5/36 in his last GCT blitz and rapid event ahead of players like Anand and Duda. 25+10 and 5+2 are a bit slower side of rapid and blitz and this inflates his rating a bit than his actual one in these formats.

Sep 17, 2021 · Plateaus happen. Look at MVL around the same age. Or Nepo. We may well see Wei Yi in a future Candidates Tournament, or rated 2800+, or even playing in a world championship match. Or we might not, but questions of "what happened" are premature I'd say.

(7.5/12) (With 5 Wins, 5 Losses, and 2 Draws) Not to mention some Brilliancy Moves like that game when he let his Queen and Rook to be Forked. And even let his room to be captured freely in exchange for an attack!!! (Where he converted into a Win) Wei Yi was the youngest ever to reach 2700.
